Gary Lee Phelps

Gary Lee Phelps, a beloved husband, father, grandfather, brother, and friend, passed away on June 24, 2025, at the age of 65, at Medical Center Hospital in Odessa, Texas. Born on July 18, 1959, in Kilgore, Texas, he was a man of simplicity and sincerity, whose life was marked by dedication and love for his family and community.

Gary's career as a truck driver took him on countless roads across the country, but it was at home, surrounded by his loved ones, where his heart truly resided. He found joy not only in his profession but also in the special moments spent watching his grandchildren play sports, cheering them on from the sidelines with an infectious enthusiasm that inspired all who knew him.

He had a rich tapestry of interests that included fishing, hunting, and the thrill of gambling at the casino, which he approached with the same spirit of adventure he brought to every other aspect of his life. Gary was also known for his warm fellowship within the community, a testament to his generous spirit and kind nature. He forged connections that lasted a lifetime, leaving behind a legacy of friendship and camaraderie.

Gary is survived by his devoted wife, Reenie Phelps, with whom he shared 40 wonderful years of marriage. He leaves behind his son Nathan Phelps and daughter-in-law Theresa, as well as his cherished daughter Lanae Lopez and son-in-law Josh Lopez. He was a proud grandfather to four beautiful grandchildren: Braden Phelps, Gwendolyn Lopez, Cannon Lopez, and Hazel Lopez, whose laughter and joy were his greatest treasures.

He is also survived by his loving brother Jackie Phelps and sister Connie Hair, along with many nieces, nephews, and cousins who hold the memory of Gary close to their hearts.

Gary was preceded in death by his mother, Betty Smith, his father, Willie Phelps, and his brother, Dwayne Phelps. Their memories will forever be cherished by those who loved him.

A memorial service in honor of Gary Lee Phelps will be held on July 5, 2025, beginning at 10:00 AM at Andrews Corgill Funeral Home, located at 201 NE 1st St, Andrews, TX 79714. The service will provide friends and family an opportunity to pay their respects and celebrate his life.

As we remember Gary, we find solace in the words from Revelation 21:4, “He will wipe every tear from their eyes. There will be no more death or mourning or crying or pain, for the old order of things has passed away.” Gary's spirit will always live on in the hearts of those he touched, a guiding light of love and warmth, forever missed but never forgotten.
