Jerome Eugene Griffith, lovingly known to family and friends as John, was born on September 4, 1956, in Andrews County, Texas, and passed away on July 25, 2025, at the age of 68. A proud U.S. Army veteran, John served his country with honor and distinction. He trained as a tanker at Fort Knox and later served as a soldier with the renowned 101st Airborne Division.
Following his military service, John pursued a career as a master electrician—a trade in which he found both purpose and respect. Known for his sharp mind, dependable hands, and quiet work ethic, he approached every job with skill and integrity.
But beyond his professional life and service, John will be remembered for his unforgettable spirit. A lifelong prankster and natural comedian, he brought laughter and light to every room he entered. His love for sports was unmatched—especially his deep, unwavering loyalty to the L.A. Dodgers. Whether watching a game or talking stats, he was happiest when sports were on, and his team was winning.
John also had a soft, fiercely devoted heart when it came to his pets—his love for his cats was unmatched, and they were truly part of his family.
He was preceded in death by his father, Fred Eugene Griffith, and his mother, Pauline Perkins.
He is survived by his two sons, John Griffith and James Jones; his beloved grandchildren, King John Griffith, Ariana Carver, and Ava Griffith; his brother, Lindel Harland; and his sister, Linda Harland.
John’s Texas roots ran deep, and his extended family brought joy and strength to his life. He is lovingly remembered by the Jimenez family, Marez family, Castro family, Hinojosa family, Maribel Alvarez, and Jeanette Davis.
A special thank you is extended to the Andrews Police Department for their kindness and care in keeping an eye on John during his daily walks. Their presence brought peace of mind and reflected the strength of the community he loved.
John leaves behind a legacy of laughter, loyalty, and love—for his family, his team, and his furry companions. He will be dearly missed and remembered with smiles, stories, and Dodger blue.
