Leonciro Granado Garza, affectionately known as "Pop" and fondly remembered as “The Goat,” passed away on April 24, 2026, in Lubbock, Texas, leaving behind a legacy filled with love, warmth, and unforgettable memories. Born on March 24, 1934, in Sanderson, Texas, Leonciro’s journey through life was marked by devotion to family, a steadfast spirit, and a life woven with stories and lessons that touched all who had the privilege of knowing him.
Leonciro grew up in the close-knit town of Sanderson alongside his five siblings and devoted parents, Salvador and Blandina Garza. His early years were shaped by the values and guidance of his family, instilling in him a deep sense of loyalty and love. He served his country honorably in the Army from 1953 to 1957, spending time stationed in Germany. This chapter of his life reflected a commitment to duty that carried into every aspect of his character.
Following his military service, Leonciro’s heart found its home when he met the love of his life, Gloria. Together, they shared 62 years of marriage, a testament to an enduring bond built on mutual respect and affection. Although Gloria preceded him in passing, their partnership remains a cherished memory for all who knew Ciro.
A lifelong learner and dedicated worker, Leonciro’s professional career included work with Unocal, where his integrity and work ethic were traits his colleagues admired. He was deeply proud of his accomplishments and took joy in the simple pleasures of life. According to his sister Guadalupe, Ciro loved his annual deer hunting trips and held a unique role as the "protectionist" at the Sanderson Theater, the person entrusted with handling the equipment and showing the movies —a role he took great pride in, ensuring community entertainment flourished.
Leonciro’s greatest joy came from his family. He was the proud father of Annette Gilliam and Michael Garza, and a beloved grandfather to Jacob, Nevaeh, Boston, Macie, Christian, Trinda, and Isidra. His love extended further to his great-grandchildren, Alayna and Benji Garza, who were treasured beyond words. His brothers Carlos (Sylvia), and Guadalupe Marquart (Lonnie) remain a part of the loving family circle, alongside numerous nieces and nephews who remember him fondly. He mourns the earlier loss of his brothers Rodolfo, Hervey, and Salvador “Babe” Garza, as well as his parents. The enduring presence of his children, siblings, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and many extended family members stands as a comforting reminder of the lives he touched.
Leonciro “Pop” Garza was a man whose spirit was a beacon of light, marked by kindness, strength, and a generous heart. There was never a person who met him and did not come away loving him. He imparted wisdom through countless stories, life lessons, and an unparalleled zest for life that enriched everyone around him. His absence leaves a void that can never be filled, yet his memory will forever be a source of comfort, inspiration, and love.
Friends, family, and all who were blessed to know Leonciro are invited to gather in loving remembrance of his life. A Viewing will be held on April 29, 2026, from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m., followed by the Rosary at 7:00 p.m. at Andrews Corgill Funeral Home in Andrews, Texas.
A Funeral Mass will be celebrated on April 30, 2026, at 10:00 a.m. at Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church in Andrews, Texas.
Following the service, the family will proceed to Andrews North Cemetery for the graveside committal.
Though Leonciro has departed from this world, his spirit remains vibrant in the hearts of his loved ones. May his soul rest in eternal peace, forever cherished and never forgotten.
