Madison Shea Swinney

August 15, 1997 — June 30, 2021

Our sweet Maddie Shea gained her angel wings on June 30, 2021. She is cancer free in the presence of her Jesus. Maddie was born August 15, 1997 to David and Karen Swinney. She was the baby of four siblings, Christine, Casey, and Devin. Maddie graduated from Permian High School in 2015 where she was proud to be a member of the Satin Strings. Satin Strings will celebrate Maddie's life with a performance of Ashokan Farewell at her memorial service. Maddie attended Texas Tech from 2015 to 2018. Maddie loved her life in Lubbock and continued to be a barista at Starbucks in Target until her health forced her to move home about a month ago. She treasured her independence and loved making plans for her future. She had big plans to own a coffee truck or a coffee shop and was exploring the possibility of having Lubbock in her rear view mirror and moving to Austin. She was always up for the next big adventure. She dreamed of spending time exploring the sites In Europe. She was very set in her ways and she would have seen all she dreamed of come to fruition if not for cancer. She was a warrior and fought with all her heart and soul right up to her last breath. She was never bitter and only had positive energy fueling her desire to kick cancer to the curb.

Maddie is survived by her parents, her sister Christine Garcia and niece Jadie Vasquez, sister Casey Barfield and husband Danny, niece Taylor Barfield, brother Devin Swinney and wife Abby, and brother-in-law Alex Vree. She is also survived by Gandparents Mike and Othelia Swinney, and several aunts, uncles, cousins and her sweet rescue dog Nyxie. She is preceded in death by Grandparents Robert Bud Windham, Christine Windham, and Flora Windham.

Maddie wanted a “natural burial”. Her parents and siblings are seeing that through. She will be put in an environmentally friendly casket with no chemicals in her body. She will be buried and a tree planted for her body to nourish the earth she so valued. Grieve as you must, and then remember all your happy memories as you look at the sunrise, sunset, stars and all the earthly beauty as seen through Maddie’s eyes.
