Longtime Alpine and Fort Davis resident Sammie Jo Burleson Lane, 86, graduated to Heaven in San
Angelo, Texas on April 11, 2019.
Sammie was born in Eden, Texas on October 10, 1932. She graduated from Alpine High School in 1949.
She and her late husband, Joe T. Lane, were longtime area ranchers and raised prized Highland Hereford
breeding bulls.
Sammie was preceded in death by her husband, Joe T. Lane; her sons, Kim Lane and Joe Tom Lane; her
grandson, Ben Means; her siblings, Ralph Burleson, Reba Carrico, Dede Watt; and her parents, Frank and
Mary Burleson.
She and Joe were the parents of 10 children, Kim, Tani, Joe Tom, Clay, Anita, Jay, Jacque, John, Jim and
Joy. Sammie has 26 grandchildren and 28 great-grandchildren.
Sammie’s faith in Jesus Christ and the faith and Christianity of her family were Sammie’s most important
passion and her and her husband Joe’s legacy. They were great supporters in the effort to spread the
gospel around the world.
A memorial service will be held at First Baptist Church in Alpine at 3pm Saturday, April 27th.
Following the service and reception, the family will have a family-only, graveside service in Elm Grove
Cemetery in Alpine.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests any donations to be given directly to West Texas Boys Ranch, a
Christian Private Residential Community.
